Our Legacy: From Past to Present
Vermilion GMC is honored to be part of the renowned Worden-Martin legacy that’s defined the Illinois automotive landscape since the 1940s. During their service in World War II, Lloyd Worden and Howard Martin formed a lasting friendship and made plans to go into business together after the war. Those plans came to fruition, with the friends selling used vehicles when they returned stateside. By 1948, they opened their first new car dealership in Champaign, solidifying the Worden-Martin dealership as a cornerstone in the community.
Over the years, Worden and Martin expanded with Packard, Chrysler, Rolls-Royce, Buick, GMC, Pontiac, and Cadillac franchises. Yet, even with exponential growth and the addition of their own leasing and loan companies, the team never lost sight of their original vision; they wanted to build meaningful relationships with every customer, offering a lifetime partnership with each dealership serving as an automotive destination for drivers across Illinois.
Worden and Martin retired in 2004, handing the reins to Shapland Auto Group. Under new ownership, Shapland expanded with the addition of several new dealerships, including Vermilion GMC. Today, we are honored to continue such an incredible legacy, treating our customers to an unparalleled experience defined by integrity, transparency, and partnership.
